GDSearch - Google Desktop Search Plug-in for Eclipse

GDSearch (Google Desktip Search) is an alternative File search plug-in for Eclipse. Instead of using the default (and kind-of slow) File search capabilities, this plug-in uses the Google Desktop Search Engine instead.

    Usage

The search can be started from either the Search menu or the Google Desktop Search Toolbar Action:

It can of course also be reached by using Ctrl-H like other Searches and switch to the "Google Desktop" tab. This tab lets you enter in the search term and which context to search for it. You can also speed up the search by selecting just an extension to search for (like java, which is the default extension).

The results will end up in the same place as other searches; in the "Search View", normally located on the bottom of the screen.

An alternative usage is to use the quick search action in the toolbar. This is a button that has a Google Desktop image. Clicking on it will open up a small dialog where a search term can be entered. If text is selected in an editor, the text will be already entered into the text field and you just need to press "Search". The results end up in the same place as the normal way of searching.

    Pre-Requisites

There is of course some pre-requisites to use this plug-in. First of all, the Google Desktop must be installed and working. Secondly, the Eclipse workspace has to be indexed by Google Desktop. Unless you have specifically turned the indexing off, or excluded the workspace folders, this should not be a problem. Also, if Google Desktop is just installed, please note it takes it some time to catch up the first time it is run (it has to index your whole drive), so it might take a while before your workspace gets searchable.

And of course, GDSearch only works on Windows since Google only supports Google Desktop on Windows.
